Hi, I'm Abdeljabar.

I'm a native Moroccan Arabic speaker, and I've spent most of my adult life around language — teaching it, learning it, and building things to make it easier for others.

Where this started

My first Darija project wasn't a course — it was a dictionary website I built back in 2010. A few years later, in 2014, I started teaching Darija over Skype, using a step-by-step method: building real sentences one at a time, instead of piling up vocabulary with nothing to do with it. In 2015 I published a Darija grammar video course, and in 2020, a full step-by-step Moroccan Arabic course on Udemy. Morabica is the newest version of something I've been building, in different forms, for over a decade.

Why I teach the way I do

I have a strong opinion about language learning, formed from doing it myself for a long time: I don't have much patience for methods that keep piling on vocabulary without ever producing anything real. If a method doesn't get you actually saying and understanding things fairly quickly, it's not working — no matter how much material it covers. Everything in Morabica, from the first lesson onward, is built around that one standard.

I'm still a learner too

Darija is my mother tongue, and I'm also proficient in Standard Arabic, English, and French. But I've also taught myself Japanese, Spanish, German, and Italian as an adult — so I know what it's like to sit on the other side of the desk, starting from zero in a language that isn't yours. Morabica is built the way I'd want a course to teach me.
